Everton Won’t Re-Sign Jack Grealish Again After What David Moyes Has Done…
Everton’s hopes of bringing Jack Grealish back to Merseyside appear to have taken another dramatic turn, with growing uncertainty surrounding whether the club will pursue a permanent deal for the Manchester City winger. After an eventful loan spell under David Moyes, the situation has become one of the biggest talking points surrounding Everton’s summer transfer plans.
Grealish joined Everton on loan from Manchester City for the 2025/26 season and initially looked like an inspired signing. His creativity, experience and ability to operate in wide areas gave Moyes another attacking option, while the England international quickly developed a strong connection with Everton supporters. Grealish even credited Moyes as an important reason behind his decision to move to Everton.
However, his season eventually ended prematurely after he suffered a serious foot injury in January. The injury required surgery and ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign, meaning Everton had to manage his recovery while continuing to pay his wages.
That setback has now complicated the possibility of another move.
Everton reportedly had the opportunity to make Grealish’s move permanent for around £50 million but chose not to activate the purchase option. The decision has raised questions about whether the club believes his age, wages, injury record and overall cost represent good value for a player entering the later stages of his career.
Moyes has previously made it clear that Grealish was a player he valued, and reports throughout the summer suggested Everton remained interested in bringing him back. Recent reports even indicated that talks over another loan could take place.
Yet the situation is far from straightforward.
Grealish has now returned to Manchester City, where new manager Enzo Maresca appears willing to give him another opportunity. The winger recently made his first City appearance in 453 days during the Community Shield, although City suffered a 3-0 defeat against Arsenal.
For Everton, that could change everything.
Rather than committing significant resources to re-signing Grealish, Moyes and the club’s recruitment team may decide that strengthening other positions is more important. Everton’s squad still has areas requiring investment, particularly in attack and defence, and the club must carefully manage its finances while trying to build a stronger team.
Ironically, Moyes’ relationship with Grealish could be one of the reasons the transfer remains alive rather than completely dead. The manager clearly appreciates what the winger can offer, and Grealish previously enjoyed some of his best football in recent seasons under Moyes.
Still, Everton cannot afford to make emotional decisions.
If Grealish’s wage demands remain high and Manchester City insist on a substantial permanent fee, Everton may ultimately walk away. The club’s decision would not necessarily represent a rejection of Grealish’s talent, but rather a recognition that the financial and sporting risks may be too great.
For now, the future remains uncertain. Everton supporters may have hoped to see Grealish back at the club, but with Manchester City offering him another opportunity and Everton weighing their priorities, a reunion is anything but guaranteed.
