Former Tigers outfielder signs minor-league deal with Cardinals
Detroit Tigers right fielder Ryan Vilade catches a fly ball for the out on Cleveland Guardians’ Estevan Florial during the first inning of a baseball game.
His “second debut” with the Tigers came 962 days after his first one when he was selected to the big-league club in May to take the spot of demoted center fielder Parker Meadows. He returned for two short stints in July but was not with the club down the stretch or on the playoff roster.
In 108 games with the Mud Hens, Vilade hit .278 with a .795 OPS. He had 24 doubles, 13 homers and 20 stolen bases. Vilade primarily plays the outfield but also has experience as an infielder.
He was waived by the Tigers last month amid the Tigers’ postseason roster shuffling.
