Jimmer Fredette, a legendary figure in BYU basketball history, has made a significant move by joining the BYU Cougars men’s basketball program as a senior member of the coaching staff. This development has excited fans and alumni, eager to see Fredette’s influence shape the team’s future.

Fredette’s connection to BYU is profound. During his collegiate career from 2007 to 2011, he became the Cougars’ all-time leading scorer with 2,599 career points. His senior year was particularly remarkable, as he led the nation in scoring with an average of 28.9 points per game, earning prestigious honors such as the Naismith, John Wooden, and Associated Press Player of the Year awards.

After college, Fredette was drafted 10th overall by the Sacramento Kings in the 2011 NBA Draft. His professional career included stints with teams like the Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, New York Knicks, and Phoenix Suns. He also played internationally in Greece and China, notably with the Shanghai Sharks.

In recent years, Fredette embraced 3×3 basketball, representing Team USA in international competitions, including the FIBA 3×3 World Cup in Austria in 2023. However, in August 2024, he suffered a torn adductor ligament during the Paris Olympics, leading to a six-month recovery period.

Beyond his playing career, Fredette has remained connected to BYU. He has actively participated in recruiting efforts, assisting Coach Kevin Young in attracting top talent to the program. His involvement has been instrumental in signing high-caliber players, elevating the team’s competitive stature.

Fredette’s return to BYU as a senior coach signifies a full-circle moment, allowing him to impart his extensive knowledge and experience to the next generation of Cougars. His deep understanding of the game and personal connection to the university are expected to inspire players and contribute significantly to the program’s success in the coming seasons.
